These tires can grip the track a lot better, which makes them faster, but they lose a lot rubber in the process which wears them down quickly. To summarize, the faster compounds are the “softer” tires (Soft, Supersoft, Ultrasoft). You’re correct about how tires work as well. Your race distance settings may change some of this, though tire strategy doesn’t really matter until 25% races, and becomes a lot more important when doing 50% or 100% races. Most strategies are usually 1 or 2 stops per race.

Pit stops take up a lot of time, and in F1 2017 it’s almost always faster to take as few pit stops as possible. It might be best to just ignore him unless it’s going to rain. The strategy changes your engineer (Jeff) recommends are almost always awful when it’s dry. Was I suppose to communicate to the pit crew that I want hard tyres, like everyone else? In what situation are those preferable? Am I wrong in thinking the softer the tyres, the better speed, but quicker to brake down? How do different tyre types compare (like I’m five, please), and is it advisable to box in like 2-3 laps later than intended just in case the team decide to hold a tactical brainstorm after my last stop? Drop to 16th and never got past the dude in front after Bottas and Kimi overtook me by a lap. A guy overtakes me and I decide to agree since there’s still 10 laps to go. Then, about a half a lap later the pit guy in the radio tells me he’s had a fantastic idea to change to hard tyres. Good for Sauber (lowest expectations lol), but I want points. Wrong, I just got fresh mediums and dropped to 13th.

”Well, the pit crew will probably change my mediums to that, since I box in this lap”, I thought. Car in front of me has hard tyres, just like the car behind me. Mechanically, I’ve never exactly been an engineer and after all this time, it’s a learning curve to master the basics. Love the game and even watched the hungarian GP last weekend.īut I’m still a noob. Hey guys! I bought F1 2017 last friday as an impulse buy from the xbox sales and, after a decade, have now found my inner F1 fan again.
